Test Run

Hey guys! I just downloaded Windows Live Writer this morning, so I’m testing it out! Plus, I need to post anyway, so I’m killing two birds with one stone! So far so good – I think I like this thing!

While falling asleep last night I was brainstorming my breakfast for this morning. I ended up having an apple, peanut butter, almond, and cinnamon sandwich on a sandwich thin! (Can you tell I LOVE having the option to color my text?!!?)

GALS 281GALS 282

It was a delicious combo, but how could it not be when it includes all of my favorite foods!

Thankfully the weather today is GORGEOUS once again. I swear, Florida has the most bipolar weather ever! I’m not complaining though, it was nice to be able to take breakfast pictures in natural light today! Smile

Today is Wednesday, which means it’s a total body AND yoga day! I’m pretty darn excited about that! After my workouts, I have plans to go shopping with Shiv, and then o-u-t tonight for my friend Ashley’s 21st! Open-mouthed smile

We tend to go out together often, so I’m sure tonight will be a blast!

I’m off to get crankin’ on some school work before my busy, fun day!

Do you use Windows Live Writer? How do you feel about it?

I have pretty much fallen in absolute love with it, and am already wondering how I ever lived without it. Wow.

Yogurt & Rain

Can you guess whose song my title is a tribute to? (Hint – read to the end of the post 😛 )

Today is another dreary/rainy day here in Florida. Apparently the storm was bad last night, but I slept riiiiight through it, as always. I am such a heavy sleeper that someone could probably come kidnap me in the middle of the night and I wouldn’t blink an eye. Eeek.

Last Night

Last night I had a simple but great dinner! There was leftover pizza in the fridge that was calling my name. To healthify my meal, I ate only ONE slice, and added tons of roasted and grilled veggies on the side.

pizza + veggies for some health

This was perfect because I still got the satisfaction and tastiness of eating pizza, but without the guilt and the “I weigh 500 pounds” feeling afterward!

My night concluded with a big bowl of Monster Cookie ice cream!

monster cookie!

Meghan and I saw this in Target last week and HAD to have it! Her mom makes us Monster Cookies all the time, so the fact that there was an ice cream version made us pretty darn excited!

While eating our ice cream, we watched a Disney classic – Mulan!

We have this on VHS, and we were cracking up about having to rewind it before we could watch it! Oh technology, how far you have come!

I feel like I have been neglecting my yogurt lately, so a yogurt bowl for breakfast seemed perfect!

I combined plain greek yogurt, a squirt of honey, chopped apple, pecans, dry oats, and a LOT of cinnamon to make my bowl.

I tend to be a little heavy-handed with the cinnamon – it just makes everything SO much better! Luckily, cinnamon is really good for you! You can read about some of the health benefits here! That makes me feel better about putting pounds of it onto my morning meals! 😉

Hope everyone else is having better weather than we are here! I’ll leave you with a little James Taylor, because I LOVEEEEE him, and it’s the perfect rainy day/relaxing music! 🙂 (Also, my title is a play on his song “Fire and Rain” 🙂 )

Monday, Monday…

…can’t trust that day.

Monday, Monday, sometimes it just turns out that wayyy…”

It’s Monday again! Funny how that happens every week! I started my Monday in Orlando at the early hour of 6:30. Steph and I drank coffee, chatted, and got ready for the day. She was off to class and appointments, and I was off to Gainesville!

I had two waffles for breakfast, and got syrup in my hair, as always. I’m not sure how that happens EVERY time I eat waffles/pancakes/french toast, but it honestly does.

The drive from Orlando was uneventful, and me and Shiv once again jammed out to the greatest mix ever!

Here are some pictures of me & Steph from the weekend that I finally uploaded:

car pics!

...are difficult to take!

Steph has a bunch more on her camera, so I’ll try to get them from her! We also saw this while we were driving:

"all you need is love"

Sky writing that said LOVE! How cute is that? I love how there is a huge ray of sun shining on it too. 🙂 It’s the little things!

Today I’m playing catch up with all of the school work I pretended didn’t exist this weekend. I’m also going to total body, and I’m excited to feel the burn! I haven’t been since Wednesday, so I see some sore muscles in my future!

Girl, You Trippin’

"all my bags are packed, I'm ready to go..."

Leavin’ on a Jet Plane reference, anyone? After a 6:30am wake up, I was ready to get a move on and start my fun weekend! First, I needed some fuel, and fruit and yogurt sounded perfect!

fruit + yogurt = perfecto

I bought a pack of the Oikos caramel greek yogurt yesterday. It’s been a while since I’ve had it, but MAN it is still SO SO SO good. As in, possibly my favorite yogurt I’ve ever had. Ever. You should try it! 🙂

After eating, I made sure that I had everything I needed for my weekend, and burned my Roadtrippin’ to Orlando mix. 😉

mix CDs are a roadtrip necessity!

Pretty much every time Shiv and I drive somewhere together, I’m responsible for making us a mix. Then we proceed to listen to it in the car, and Shiv bashes every song on said mix. (She’s kinda joking..but kinda not 😛 ) Today though she was all praise! She loved all but 3 songs on my 21 song mix. Score!

Who’s ready to roadtrip!?

Orlando here I comeeeeee!

Almonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend

Ok, maybe I changed the words a bit…but almonds are certainly this girl’s best friend!

I went from not even liking the little brown guys to being pretty obsessed with them. Exhibit A:

almond butter

Cocoa Roast Almonds

Almond Clusters

I also have slivered almonds in the pantry, and usually have almond milk in the fridge. They’re just so darn tasty!

Yesterday was (shockingly) my first time actually buying almond butter! In the past 16 hours I’ve eaten it on toast, on a graham cracker, and in overnight oats. Love. It.

Last night I prepped a bowl of overnight oats. Into the mix went 1/4 cup of oats, skim milk, plain greek yogurt, and cinnamon. This morning I mixed in a big scoop of almond butter and a dash of sweetener. I also had strawberries and 1/2 of an asiago cheese bagel with cream cheese.

breakfast/lunch = brunch?

This served as my breakfast/lunch since I woke up super late and didn’t eat until after 11:00!

The weather here today is terrible! It’s been pitch black and stormy all day. It makes me want to curl up in bed with my blankets! Instead, I’ve been doing homework, and I have class from 2-4pm. Luckily, that is my last class for the week, because my typical Thursday night class was cancelled! Woohoo!

I have big plans for this weekend too, so I’m excited for it to start! Hope everyone else is having a good Thursday…go eat some almonds! 😉

On Writing

Breakfast this morning was yet ANOTHER smoothie bowl, and I fear that someone will want to kill me if I post one more picture of that, so I won’t.

On my “about” page, I say that I have only recently started enjoying writing, etc. I wanted to share with you something that I wrote a few months ago that explains how I feel about writing in a much more in-depth manner. It’s pretty long, so bear with me.

On Writing

I hear the first step to becoming a writer is to, well…write. I figure if I ever want to become one, I should open up my word processor on occasion. So here I am. Why is writing so much harder than thinking? Thoughts are fluid, they run through your mind constantly, and you can’t shut them off even if you try. Why then, do they seem to cease completely when you stare at a blank page? There is so much potential in a blank page – a word document, piece of paper, even a rogue napkin. Empty space just waiting to be filled with thoughts, feelings, tales of daring, adventure, things to make you laugh, cry, and want to read more. I’m always afraid to just start – just start writing. Maybe it’s the perfectionist in me, I feel like anything I put down to that almighty blank page has to be polished and perfect. Worthy, if you will. But by waiting for the perfect thought, idea, or story to strike me, I end up never writing anything. So is it better to write random comets of thought down, or never to write at all? I’m going to try practicing the first one. Getting over the perfectionist syndrome, and starting to fill the endless white pages with some black words. Even if they’re not the perfect words, or they don’t form the perfect story or even a coherent thought. Every journey begins with a single step, as they say. My single step may not even be a whole page, but damnit, I’m going to write. As often as I can. I always think that to myself but never follow through. My most consistent writing outlet thus far has been my handwritten journal, which I have kept since sophomore year of high school. Even that I only update on occasion. I go through spurts of writing more often, but overall it’s lucky if it sees me once every two weeks. A lot of the reason behind that is because my hand gets tired easily. Now, I know that sounds like a lame excuse, but it’s so true. Even when I have the richest of stories to tell my journal, I don’t feel like it because my hand hurts after filling only a page or two. It’s a miracle if I even get the whole story out on paper. Forget about vivid details, or writing style. It’s messy and straight to the point when I do get around to writing in my journal, simply because of the logistics of my lazy hand. I have never wanted to switch my journal over to the computer, simply because it didn’t seem as authentic. However, we are in the digital age, and my hand would probably greatly appreciate the transition. But, I will keep my handwritten, non-digital journal anyway. Call me old fashioned, but I like some things to remain out of the technological realm. I would like to write other things on the computer though. Essays, stories, anything that flows through my little brain. Anything that inspires me to put pen to paper (or in this case, finger to keyboard). I just want to start writing down anything and everything, until it becomes a habit. Until I get better at it. I’ve always thought I didn’t like writing, but I’m pretty sure I just didn’t like the whole five paragraph essay, intro, body, conclusion, blah blah blah type of writing. Maybe if I write on my own terms, in my own way I will find that I love it. I have a hunch that I could, and sometimes I even picture myself as a writer. No office, no routine, just sitting at home on my couch, cup of tea in hand, laptop in lap. Writing amazing things. Short stories, a column, maybe even a novel. But if I ever want to make that a reality, I have to write!

Whew! If you made it through all or even half of that rant, kudos to you! Those are my feelings about writing, written long before I even though to start this blog. One good thing is that this blog forces me to WRITE – every.single.day. It is far from the prettiest or most interesting writing, but it’s getting me in the habit of actually doing it. Every.day. Which is good!

I hope you found this more interesting than another picture of a smoothie in a bowl! 😛 I’m off to do some homework before my total body class at 3!

Dancing Counts As Exercise, Right?

Sorry I was M.I.A. all of yesterday! I have a confession: I did NOT end up going to total body! By the time I finished my phone interview I would have been really rushing to get there on time/get a ticket for the class…PLUS it was raining…PLUS I was lazy. So I skipped.

Instead, my exercise yesterday consisted of running a mile to Shiv’s house…and gettin’ down on the dance floor! 😉

A few of my friends and I went to a crush party for a fraternity last night. None of us are in the Greek system, but you don’t have to be to go to crush parties. Basically a fraternity takes over a club or bar for the night, and there is no cover AND there are free drinks. Um, free anything? Yes please, I am a poor college student afterall. We had a good time dancing the night away.

Shiv & me...yes, she is 5'11!

Today I have a full day of class, meetings, more class, and a presentation. I generally don’t work out on Tuesdays due to a lack of time (wow, I’m just full of excuses in this post, huh?) so I guess I’ll be waiting until tomorrow to get back into my normal routine.

Breakfast was a LARGE cup of water + a smoothie in a bowl!

What went into the bullet:

  • 4 frozen strawberries
  • 4 frozen peach slices
  • 2 handfuls of frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 cup of greek yogurt
  • skim milk
  • 1/4 cup of dry oats

smoothie in a bowl

no spinach = pretty color for once

This smoothie was reallyyyy good, and the oats added a nice flavor to the whole thing. I’m off to get ready for the day!

Do you count dancing when you go out as exercise??
