21st Birthday…Coming Soon to a Jamie Near You

Hey guys!

Another manic Monday is done…woohoo! It seems like the rest of the week is easier to get through after the initial day is finished.

This morning I did my usual 5:45 spin class, followed by a 9 hour work day. Ugh. Spending so much time sitting at a desk gets really tedious. After I got home, I ate WAY too many chocolate chip congo bars, followed by a bagel topped with melted cheese and marinara. Yum.

I had a major food baby and was feeling pretty icky thanks to all the sugar, so I hit up the gym for workout number two. I completed 15ish minutes of arm weights, followed by a quick 1.6 miles on the treadmill, after which I felt much better!

(I have no pictures for today, so I’m cheating and throwing in a picture of the young Jamie – you’re welcome!)

So, what big things are on the horizon you may ask? Let me tell you! Since it’s officially July (11 days into it to be exact) it is also officially my birth month! But this year is not just any birthday…it’s the big 2-1!!! FINALLY. I honestly feel like I am the last person on Earth to turn 21. (Exaggeration much?) But really…having such a late birthday has been killing me, but in a mere 19 days, I’ll be a big girl! Smile

Another exciting thing? I got my first freelance job!!! I’ve been thinking about/semi looking into freelancing for a while now, but I have finally landed a position! It’s a steady one too, writing about International Education. Considering my master’s is in International Business and I am an ambassador for my grad program, this opportunity is right up my alley! I’m really excited about it, and I got my first assignment today! I can’t wait to get crackin’ on it – I’ll be sure to link to it whenever it gets posted!

On that note, I’m off to start writing! I also have a pretty good post in the works for the blog, so look out for that sometime this week! (Hopefully)

Bad Blogger

I have been having major blogger guilt lately, due to the fact that I have SO been neglecting the blog! I’ve been all over the place with no routine, and actually pretty busy with not a lot of down time!

When I got to Orlando on Tuesday, Steph and I spent time catching up before eating dinner. It was “clear out the fridge” night, so I had a random mish mash of food thrown into a tortilla. In the mix was broccoli, edamame, matchstick carrots, cheese, and salsa. It was pretty darn random but also pretty darn delicious!

The rest of the night was spent getting fro yo and watching Ever After. Smile

Yesterday we slept in and then spent most of the day by the pool playing with the dogs! Steph is watching her boyfriend’s great dane for the week, and they just got a new puppy – in addition to the 12 year old dog they already have! So we have a doggie full house right now, which means I’m in heaven! They are so cute and fun! I put a picture of Molly (the puppy) on twitter…that face just makes ya melt!

My other big event of yesterday was signing up for my summer gym membership! My family has been a member of the YMCA pretty much my entire life, including when they lived in Orlando. Of course the membership was canceled when they moved in January, so I had to re-sign up for one! It’s $31 a month, since I’m under 23, and I can cancel any time. Not too shabby!

Last night we went out to Amigo’s for dinner with Steph, her two sisters and her mom. It was nice! Steph and I split a burrito with black beans, guac, queso, and lettuce. I also had my fair share of chips and salsa, so I was pretty darn full by the time we were done.

It was our friend Kyle’s 21st last night so we went out with a few friends to celebrate that occasion! It ended up being a lot of fun, and I got to get my groove on, which is always a good thing in my book! A few pics…

So overall, yesterday was fun and eventful!

Today I had an interview, which went really well I think. Fingers crossed! When I got home I changed and went to the gym, and boy oh boy did it feel great! I ran two miles in 19 minutes, did 20 minutes of weights, and finished up with 20 minutes on the elliptical. I’ve been a major gym slacker the last couple of weeks, so it felt really nice to get back to it!

Sorry this post is so wordy! I guess that’s what happens when you’re a bad blogger! Hope everyone is doing AWESOME! Open-mouthed smile

What’s something that made you smile today?

Puppy. Enough said! Smile

House Hunters and Alliteration

A little recap of yesterday…

My mom and I had a pretty busy day! We left the apartment around 8:30 to drive  to another part of town to meet the realtor. We ended up looking at six or seven houses, which is exhausting business! We saw some cool ones, including my favorite – a log cabin!!! It felt so home-y and cozy in there, plus it had a fire place that was to die for! Unfortunately, it was right next to a major road and a gas station, which is kind of a no go for real estate. BOO!

Some pretty kitchens:

Pretty front views:

Aaaand the wonderful log cabin!

Isn’t that fire place amazing?! Swoon.

On the way back from house hunting, we stopped by the Toyota dealership. As you probably know, Toyota has had quite a few recalls, and my car fell under one of them. We took the letter in and in 40 minutes they had replaced the (potentially) bad part, free of charge! Woohoo!

By the time we got home we were tired and hungry, so as usual, I went with something quick and easy – Pesto Pasta Primavera! (How’s that for alliteration!)

I made some whole wheat noodles while chopping up green peppers and onion. I also threw some frozen peas and broccoli florets into a skillet to cook, and added in some of the leftover roasted cauliflower from Monday night as well. After everything was done cooking, I threw it into a big bowl and coated it with pesto. TaDa! Dinner came together in a little over ten minutes, and tasted fantastic!

Today began with an 8 a.m. wake up call (this is early for me haha) to go on a run with my mom! Well, she was going to walk and I was going to run. We headed over to the trail that is behind the YMCA here, and we were off! I ran around the trail two times (2 miles) and then back tracked for about a half a mile to meet up with mom. We then walked home, so all in all I think I got in about 3 miles of running/walking. Not a bad way to start the day!

When we got back to the apartment, I decided to wash my car (!!!) It was really dusty when we bought it, but now it’s sparkling and beee-you-tee-full!!! LOVE IT!

For breakfast I made a green smoothie with:

  • a large handful of spinach
  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1 frozen strawberry (all that was left Sad smile )
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 1 cup of almond milk

It was very tasty! I’m so happy to have chocolate protein powder back in my life – I definitely prefer it over vanilla!

Now I’ve gotta run because mom and I are going to Target and the mall. What a life! Smile

Would you like to live in a log cabin, or would you rather live in a more traditional house?

I think we know my answer to this one…log cabin all the way baby! Smile with tongue out

Oh hey Savannah

Well, I made it to Savannah! My parents and I made the drive yesterday after packing up a bunch of my stuff. By the time we made it to their apartment (they STILL have not found a house!) I was pretty famished. After a quick scan of the fridge,  I decided on a simple combo of a light English muffin, peanut butter, apple, and cinnamon.

GALS 360

I enjoyed the rest of the apple on the side. I spent most of last night reading my book, and settling in – it was an early night!

Today was full of excitement! Drumroll please…I got new running shoes! WOOHOO! I have been in desperate need of them for quite some time now. I went to a running store here in Savannah called Fleet Feet, and was fitted for my shoes. This is actually the first time I have been fitted, and I think it is so worth it! The guy watched me run on the treadmill as well as outside, and picked out shoes for me based  on how my foot fell. He said I didn’t have much pronation – apparently my foot is neutral, and he said that means I’m a natural runner! Winking smile I don’t know about all that, but it was fun to hear!

After testing out a few pairs of shoes, including Saucony and Asics, I decided on the Nike Zoom Structure 14. The thing that really sold me was how light they felt on my feet – compared to these shoes, all of the other ones felt like major clunkers!

I went on a short run when I got home to test ‘em out! I love them already! My run certainly didn’t make me feel like a natural runner – I was huffing and puffing through two miles. I would like to blame the fact that I have not worked out in an ENTIRE week! GAH! These babies are just the motivation I need to start pounding the pavement again. Hopefully having properly fitted shoes will solve my shin splint woes! Cross your fingers!

My other new running buddy is feeling left out…meet my new iPod sleeve!

GALS 365

My wonderful roommate Ang got me this for my birthday! My birthday isn’t until July, but she felt bad that I always get gipped out of birthday presents from college friends since I have a summer birthday. Winking smile Thanks Ang!!!

After the running store, my mom and I hit up the good old grocery store! I was pumped to finally grocery shop again, and reintroduce fresh produce to my life. The last few weeks at school were grocery shopping-less, which killed me!

Tonight I’m making my favorite pesto pizza for my parents, and I plan to roast some cauliflower on the side as well! Recipe to come in a future post.

For now I will leave you with some just-recovered pictures from my last trip to Savannah, when my parents and I visited Tybee Island for the day!

SO PRETTY! I loveee the beach, and plan on hittin’ up Tybee for a day or two before I depart from Savannah!

Were you fitted for your running shoes, or did you pick them out yourself?

Excitement’s in the Air!

Sorry I’ve been M.I.A. this weekend! I’ve been busy lazy, and haven’t gotten around to posting! Let’s do a little recap, shall we?

I went to total body, and the class ended up being taught by my favorite instructor! She really kicked my butt, and I loved every second of it! After my workout, me, Meghan, and Ang hit up the mall so I could look for a graduation dress. I looked in a few stores, but nothing stuck out to me, so I’m still dress-less at the moment!

After the mall we ran to Wal-Mart to pick up some necessities. My “necessities” included cucumber melon body wash, apples, cake batter ice cream, and my new favorite purchase – BANANA EXTRACT! I am in L-O-V-E!

As I mentioned before in this post, I am allergic to bananas. Crying face So.Sad. However, I can still eat fake, banana flavored things. Enter banana extract – fake banana flavor in a bottle, and I LOVE it! I’ve been putting in in stuff all weekend, including milkshakes, smoothies, and just plain glasses of milk. YUM.

For dinner we went to one of our favorite local restaurants – Bahn Thai. Meghan and I split an order of the chicken less pad Thai, because their portions are HUGE.

GALS 307

I scarfed down two portions of this + a home made milkshake + a few Oreos. I was kicking myself by the end of the night, because I ended up with a major food baby and a sugar coma. ICK.

Saturday was pretty uneventful. I spent most of the day reading my book, Game of Thrones. It’s getting REALLY good, so I easily lost myself in it for a few hours.

When Ang asked if I wanted to go to the gym, I almost declined in favor of reading. Then I realized I should stop being a bum, and that I would feel much better if I got a workout in, so I went. It ended up being a great workout, and I finally did some cardio! It’s been far too long. I spent 25 minutes working up a sweat on a spin bike, followed by 12 minutes of intervals on the treadmill. I ended with some arm exercises. It definitely felt good to do some cardio!

For dinner, I had leftover pad Thai, roasted broccoli, and grilled red peppers and onions. Three of my absolute favorite foods on one plate? WINNER!

Today was a very exciting day for me!

It started out with some quality reading time, followed by some more errand running with Meghan. While we were out, I made another fantastic purchase….

I was beyond pumped for this thing, and immediately made some iced Chai tea to put in it when we got home. My tumbler and I are already bff’s – it’s loveeeee.

At 7:30, I had an event that I’ve been waiting for for nearly a year now…

The David Sedaris book reading/signing!!!

If you don’t know who David Sedaris is, I highly recommend that you ch-ch-check him out!

My sister got me his book Me Talk Pretty One Day when I was 14, and I have been obsessed with him ever since. He is absolutely hilarious, and I constantly laugh out loud while reading his books.

Anyway. I found out almost a year ago that he was coming to UF on April 17, and was SO EXCITED. I bought my ticket months ago, and have been looking forward to this day. He did not disappoint. He read a few stories from his books, a new story he has been working on, some entries from his personal journal, and then took questions. He was just as hilarious in person as he is in writing, and I loved every second of it! Unfortunately, I did not get him to sign my book after because the line was SO LONG. It’s okay though, because I’m sure I’ll be seeing him read again as soon as I get the chance! Smile

After the book reading, the excitement continued….You see, HBO made a series out of my book! (Game of Thrones) The series started tonight, so as soon as I got home from the reading, I hopped on the couch to watch 60 minutes of non stop drama. There was love, betrayal, beheading, puppies, incest, hot men, and castles. You’re intrigued now, aren’t you?! Winking smile I made my roommates watch with me, and I think they’re hooked!

Oh, one last bit of excitement – my cousin Claire, who recently got engaged, asked me to be a bridesmaid! I was totally not expecting that, but I am so excited and honored that she wants me to be a part of her big day! Of course I said yes! The wedding is not for quiteeee a while (like, 2 years) but I’m still really pumped!

That was officially the longest post EVER, so you get a gold star if you made it all the way through! Hope everyone else had a grand weekend!

This morning I was feeling quite uninspired in the kitchen. I haven’t grocery shopped in a while, and don’t have too many options left. I wound up making a blueberry smoothie, just like yesterday, but still wanted something else. While doing my daily blog reads, I came across this post from Lisa.

Ding ding ding! Egg-spiration hit! I literally rushed out to the kitchen to make these egg muffins immediately.

First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. For my muffins, I used 4 eggs, a splash of milk, a few shakes of “Italian” seasoning, shredded cheese, spinach, and sweet corn. After beating the eggs together in a bowl, I added in everything else and stirred it all up! Then, I poured the egg mixture into muffin tins – this made 6. I popped them in the oven, and let them bake for about 28 minutes.

GALS 302

These were so good, and really hit the spot! I enjoyed two before putting the rest in the fridge for later. Thanks Lisa!!! Smile

Today I have plans to go to total body at 3:00, as usual. For some reason I am extra excited for class today! I can’t wait to feel the burn, and I think I might even increase my weights some!

After total body, Meghan and I are running some errands, including a stop at super Walmart and the mall! I need to pick up some groceries and toiletries, and then possibly look for a graduation dress, since graduation is now only 15 days away!!! It’s so surreal!

I’ll leave you with this video – thoughts??

Summer on the Brain

I am happy to report that yesterday’s “clean slate” was a success! I ate plenty of fruits and veggies, went to total body AND yoga, and didn’t have fro yo! Woohoo!

Today I don’t have class until 1:55, so in the mean time I am being a bum. I slept in then chatted on the phone with my mom while attempting to make big life decisions. Where to intern this summer, when to study abroad, WHERE to study abroad, etc. Being that I am the most indecisive person EVER, making these choices does not come easily to me!

To fuel me through my indecision fest, I had a blueberry smoothie in a bowl, 4 large strawberries (which were SO GOOD!), and a graham cracker topped with peanut butter. Mmmmm!

I am SO close to being finished with school! My last class is a week from today, and all I have left is one case brief, a presentation, and an online exam! Summer is so close I can smell it! The (mostly) gorgeous weather isn’t helping my case, I just want to kick off my shoes and run around barefoot on a beach! I’ve been listening to these two songs on repeat – both have summer in the title…both get me PUMPED for the upcoming season…and I LOVE them both! Without further ado:

aaaand SummerBOY 😉

Give me that summer, NOW! Winking smile

Hope everyone’s having a great Thursday! Anyone else have summer on the brain like me?
