Yogurt & Rain

Can you guess whose song my title is a tribute to? (Hint – read to the end of the post 😛 )

Today is another dreary/rainy day here in Florida. Apparently the storm was bad last night, but I slept riiiiight through it, as always. I am such a heavy sleeper that someone could probably come kidnap me in the middle of the night and I wouldn’t blink an eye. Eeek.

Last Night

Last night I had a simple but great dinner! There was leftover pizza in the fridge that was calling my name. To healthify my meal, I ate only ONE slice, and added tons of roasted and grilled veggies on the side.

pizza + veggies for some health

This was perfect because I still got the satisfaction and tastiness of eating pizza, but without the guilt and the “I weigh 500 pounds” feeling afterward!

My night concluded with a big bowl of Monster Cookie ice cream!

monster cookie!

Meghan and I saw this in Target last week and HAD to have it! Her mom makes us Monster Cookies all the time, so the fact that there was an ice cream version made us pretty darn excited!

While eating our ice cream, we watched a Disney classic – Mulan!

We have this on VHS, and we were cracking up about having to rewind it before we could watch it! Oh technology, how far you have come!

I feel like I have been neglecting my yogurt lately, so a yogurt bowl for breakfast seemed perfect!

I combined plain greek yogurt, a squirt of honey, chopped apple, pecans, dry oats, and a LOT of cinnamon to make my bowl.

I tend to be a little heavy-handed with the cinnamon – it just makes everything SO much better! Luckily, cinnamon is really good for you! You can read about some of the health benefits here! That makes me feel better about putting pounds of it onto my morning meals! 😉

Hope everyone else is having better weather than we are here! I’ll leave you with a little James Taylor, because I LOVEEEEE him, and it’s the perfect rainy day/relaxing music! 🙂 (Also, my title is a play on his song “Fire and Rain” 🙂 )

Girl, You Trippin’

"all my bags are packed, I'm ready to go..."

Leavin’ on a Jet Plane reference, anyone? After a 6:30am wake up, I was ready to get a move on and start my fun weekend! First, I needed some fuel, and fruit and yogurt sounded perfect!

fruit + yogurt = perfecto

I bought a pack of the Oikos caramel greek yogurt yesterday. It’s been a while since I’ve had it, but MAN it is still SO SO SO good. As in, possibly my favorite yogurt I’ve ever had. Ever. You should try it! 🙂

After eating, I made sure that I had everything I needed for my weekend, and burned my Roadtrippin’ to Orlando mix. 😉

mix CDs are a roadtrip necessity!

Pretty much every time Shiv and I drive somewhere together, I’m responsible for making us a mix. Then we proceed to listen to it in the car, and Shiv bashes every song on said mix. (She’s kinda joking..but kinda not 😛 ) Today though she was all praise! She loved all but 3 songs on my 21 song mix. Score!

Who’s ready to roadtrip!?

Orlando here I comeeeeee!

A Loser Like Me

I am TOTALLY obsessed with this song right now! I don’t even watch Glee, but saw that it was number one on itunes, so I had to get it. In the three days I’ve had this song, it has only grown on me more and more. It’s so darn catchy!

I definitely rocked out to this song a few million times while doing my treadmill intervals today! I completed 30 minutes of intervals, sprinting at a 9.0 pace for 30 seconds, followed by a 30 second recovery at a 3.8 speed. I kept the incline at 1.5 for both intervals. This workout felt a little easier than usual today – maybe because I haven’t done treadmill intervals in a couple of weeks? Who knows! I ended my workout with an easy 15 minutes on the elliptical reading a supaaaa old edition of Real Simple magazine.

Speaking of being a loser…I got a nice reminder today that I am, in fact, not one! Haha, Julie at Peanut Butter Fingers wrote an awesome post today about steering clear of the “comparison trap.” It boils down to the fact that we are each own person, and we are each pretty freakin’ cool in our own way. Amen to that! 🙂

Today’s food breakdown:

Breakfast – Voskos honey greek yogurt with 1/2 an apple and cinnamon

Lunch – green smoothie with blueberries, almond milk, spinach, and a little sweetener + the other 1/2 of my apple + some brown rice salad

Dinner – Basically I snacked my way through dinner. I had some tortilla chips with a corn/salsa/sour cream mixture, a cup of tea, a cookie, and a bowl of ice cream with cookie dough. Wow, real nutritious, huh?

Good thing I got a great workout in today! Tomorrow I have plans to go to total body and possibly a yoga class as well. It’s been a few weeks since I’ve been to my regular yoga class, and my body is missing it for sure! It’s just screaming to be stretched out and realigned!

And because it doesn’t feel like a real post without a picture…

some of my favoriteee people 🙂

This is me, my brother, and my awesomely amazing aunt Gi. We were out at a restaurant in little Italy in Boston, celebrating my birthday over the summer. It was a great night. 🙂

Tai Chi? No, Chai Tea

I always find it funny that Tai Chi and Chai Tea are the reverse of each other…or something like that? Can you guess what I’m doing now? Drinkin’ some chai tea!!! This stuff is seriously the best, it’s like drinkin’ a biggg cup of dessert! (kinda…but let’s be real, tea is not dessert)

enjoyin' some chai from my favorite elephant mug!

For dinner tonight, I had a MorningStar Farms Tomato Basil Pizza burger. I cannot rave enough about this “burger” – it is SOOO stinkin’ delicious! It’s quickly scaling the “favorite foods” charts! I toasted a sandwich thin, spread a french onion Laughing Cow wedge on it, put the burger on there, and topped it with spinach, green peppers, and onion! I roasted some broccoli for my side.

It was soooooo good, and was prepared in no time!

Total body was good today, but the instructor started out with a killer amount of squats and lunges. Consequently, my legs were shaking the remainder of the class, and still felt jelly-like while I was walking home. I’m sure I’ll be feelin’ all that leg work tomorrow!

Instead of working on my homework, I have been listening to my new songs on repeat…I am OBSESSED with Check It Out by Nicki Minaj at the moment. I think it’s the perfect running song, and can’t wait to test that theory on my next run! 🙂

At total body the song Gangsta Luv by Snoop Dogg came on, and I found myself mouthing the lyrics. That song is goofy, but somehow ALWAYS makes an appearance on my workout playlists! The music video for it is pretty ridiculous as well!
